Medical device manufacturer, Medtronic, has issued a medical device safety alert concerning its CONTOUR NEXT LINK 2.4 [Model Number: MMT-1151EN, Impacted Serial Number: BG1097249B].

The manufacturer has become aware that the CONTOUR NEXT LINK 2.4 meter with the wrong unit of measure may have been incorrectly distributed to users. The affected product contains the incorrect unit of measure, mmol/L instead of mg/dL.

According to the manufacturer, using a blood glucose meter with the incorrect unit of measure can potentially result in administering too much insulin which can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or administering too little insulin, which can cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).

The users are required to take the following actions:

• Confirm the identified serial number (i.e. BG1097249B) found on the back of their meter.
• Stop using the affected products immediately.
• Contact their local technical support and return the recalled meter to the manufacturer by following the instructions provided by the technical support representative.

The manufacturer will provide a free replacement.

According to the local supplier, the affected product is not distributed in Hong Kong.
